Where is our focus

The first week back in schools this term started for me with a week of assemblies at Brigshaw on the topic of ‘Too Afraid to Fail’.

Over Christmas as I thought about the assemblies I was definitely becoming more and more afraid of failing!

The week before the onset of assemblies we went to the annual YFC conference and had the chance to hear some great teaching and for God to do some changing in us. There was one session which personally spoke to me loads about the fear of God and fear of man. God reminded me that what He thinks of me is what matters (yes!) and that living your life to impress others is not the way forward (phew!). Such a simple truth but so easy to forget. He also reminded me about the privilege of sharing Him with others; whilst I was busy focussing on my fear of presenting and what others would think of me I was ignoring the fact that as a team we were going to get to share a bit about Jesus with a whole school in a week! Amazing!

God answered lots of prayers that week at Brigshaw. He gave me excitement rather than fear, spoke to people through the assemblies and definitely got me asking the question about schools work; who are we worshiping – people or God? The best thing is, as we look to God for our worth, in our schools work we will be serving others the best we can be! It frees us to be who He’s made us to be and He can work through us! When we’re weak, He’s strong. Win, win all round I’d say!
